Yard Give-Away & School Supply Distribution

Our annual FREE Yard Give-Away and School Supply Distribution will be held next Saturday, August 7th from 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (please note- we will not be open Friday evening). Used clothing and household items- no junk please- (as well as new school supplies) may be dropped off in the Gym at the following times: Wednesday, August 4th (6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.), all day Thursday, August 5th and all day Friday, August 6th. For anyone who would prefer to support this outreach via a monetary donation, these will also be gratefully accepted and will be used to purchase specific items that are in short supply. These may be placed in the offering plate in an envelope marked "Yard Give-Away". School supplies will be distributed to children of Madison County residents. Children MUST be present and proof of Madison Co. residency must be shown (utility bill, etc.). We are also in need of volunteers August 5th - 7th! Childcare for volunteers will be provided. Fall Kick-Off August 15th - 22nd

As the busy summer comes to a close, make plans to re-engage in our mission of Exalting the Savior, Equipping the Saints, and Evangelizing the Lost starting August 15th! Let's once again be intentional about inviting friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to church so they can hear the good news about Jesus that we celebrate each week! Wednesday night activities, including LIfe U and Choir, resume August 18th! See below for more details!


Fall Life University August 18th

The Fall Life University quarter will begin Wednesday, August 18th @ 7 p.m.! This is a great time to reengage and get involved in one of many topical classes being offered. Check out the resource walls in the foyer for complete descriptions of classes, including "Biblical Greek 101" (see below for more details), "Next Step Parenting," and more!


Worship Ministry

Choir Starts August 18th!
Join us for the Fall Kick-Off for Worship & Christmas Choir on Wednesday, August 18th! We'll rehearse Worship music from 6:45 - 7:30 p.m. and Christmas music from 7:30 - 8:15 p.m. All are welcome- regardless if you've been part of the choir before or if you're new! Missions

Zambian Mission Trip
The Zambian Mission Team is asking for your prayers and support as they leave on August 4th - August 14th. They will be taking a team of 22 people to hold a Vacation Bible School for 600 of God's children, paint schools, hold training sessions for seminary students and evangelize in the country of Zambia, Africa. Please pray for their safety while traveling and that God blesses their work in expanding His kingdom. For more info, see Sunday's bulletin.


Adult Ministries

Tough Questions SS Class
Got tough questions? Want real answers? Then come to this special 12-week Adult Sunday School class beginning on Sunday, August 15th at 10:55 a.m. (Room to be announced). The class is great for new Christians or anyone who wants to see what the Bible and other experts say about tough questions such as: "How do we know the Bible is true? What do other religions believe about Jesus? Why does God allow suffering for his people?" Your tough questions will be asked in the first weeks and then discussed during the sessions. You can return to your regular Sunday School class once this class ends. Come and invite someone you know that has "Tough Questions".

Life U Biblical Greek Class

Would you like to learn to read the New Testament in Greek? Well now you can! We are offering a 3-semester Biblical Greek class as a part of Life U starting Wednesday, August 18th @ 7 p.m. The only cost is books and materials that you will need to purchase on your own ($45 via Amazon.com). For the first semester, all you need is "Basics of Biblical Greek" by William Mounce (both the Grammar and Workbook, 3rd Edition). At the end of 3-semesters you will be able to read the New Testament in its original language! For more info, you can go to www.1Lord.org to download a class description. Singles' Dinner & Movie
The Singles will be going out to dinner and a movie on Friday, August 20th. Meet at the church by 6:30 p.m. to carpool to theater. Movie & restaurant TBA. For more info, see Sunday's bulletin.


Pastor Fred's Book

Free Books, Pre-Sales, and books for purchase will be available through the week, Monday - Thursday during office hours (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.). Robert Cunningham will be selling books at a "Meet Local Authors" event at the Edwardsville Library this Sunday, August 1st from 2 - 4 p.m. for the same discounted paperback price of $10 each. Books are also available for purchase at "A Piece of Mind" Bookstore in Edwardsville.


IMPACT! Student Ministry (Grades 6-12)

MS & HS Six Flags Trip
Hey Students- Are you ready to have a blast at Six Flags?!?! Let's end our summer with a great day of roller coaster fun. You must sign up in the Student Area (upstairs) no later than Wednesday, August 18th. This cost is $28/person, for transportation and a ticket. If you have a season's pass, it's only $7! We will meet in the FBCM East parking lot at 9 a.m. and return at 7 p.m. Don't forget to sign up! Parents- You are welcome to join us. If you have any questions, contact Emily McEwen (667-8221).


The Neighborhood Children's Ministry (Grades K-5)

VBS Missions Project
The 2010 VBS Missions Project is to provide "In Home Care Kits" for AIDS victims in Africa. Our goal is to collect enough items to fill 20 kits. Note that only specific items are needed (visit the counter in the foyer this Sunday for more info). Please place donated items in the specified tub in the foyer or Children's Wing. Sunday School Training
Join our dedicated team of Children's Ministry Volunteers and help change a child! We want kids to learn to love God and to show that love to other people. To do so, it takes adults who want kids to LIVE IT more than just HEAR IT. Teaching is just one of the many exciting ways to serve in the Children's Ministry. For those interested in teaching, there will be a special training session held next Sunday, August 8th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Preschool Ministry

Sunday School Training
Join our dedicated team of Preschool Volunteers! The Preschool Ministry paves the way for preschoolers by guiding them in their first impression of Jesus Christ. Teaching is just one of many exciting ways to serve in the Preschool Ministry. For those interested in teaching, there will be a special training session held next Sunday, August 8th from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Childcare will be provided. To learn more about the many ways to serve, please contact Marianne Burks or Cindy Sheehan in the church office @ 667-8221.


Hospitality Ministry

The Nominating Team is looking for individuals who would be willing to serve on the Hospitality Team. We need a chairperson and team members. The Hospitality Team serves the church by planning and arranging meals for events such as the Valentine's Banquet, Thanksgiving Dinner, Funeral Dinners, and Mayor's Prayer Dinner. Office staff is available to provide coordination assistance to the chairperson and team members. To volunteeer or for more information, contact Barry Bruhn (667-8221).


Job Opportunities

Part-time Custodian
FBCM is now hiring for a part-time church custodian that can work either day or evening shifts. Experience is preferred. Must be able to work well with people and provide assistance to people when necessary. Must be able to operate large machines and perform all types of cleaning activities. Must also be self-motivated and self-directed. Because of the nature of this job, it is both a job and a ministry. Interested persons can pick up an application in the church office. Volunteers Needed for Stuffing Bulletins
Ever wonder how the sermon notes get in each and every bulletin? They are put there by people like you, who volunteer their time and services to help further our goal to Exalt the Savior, Equip the Saints, & Evangelize to the Lost. We are in need of volunteers! Are you looking to serve the Lord and can't think of how to do it? Volunteer to help stuff bulletins! Bulletins are prepared on Friday mornings around 11am (unless otherwise noted). If you are free on Fridays and would like to volunteer, please contact Missy Robbs or Erin Westfall in the church office (667-8221). 

Business Meeting
There will be a business meeting on Sunday, August 22nd immediately following the evening service. The main topic to discuss will be approval of the Ministry Team nominations for the 2011 calendar year.
